Trebuchet (WA Only)

Description

This is a fun, exciting event that teachers can use to capture student interest in STEM and TSA. This event incorporates elements of design, research, construction and problem-solving in a real-world application. Trebuchets must be made out of PVC.

2024-25 Design Challenge

  • Trebuchets must be made out of PVC

  • No piece(s) of the trebuchet may detach from the whole during operation.

  • Trebuchets must fit within the 2'10” x 2' x 1.5' size limitation, but the arm may extend outside of that when swinging.

  • Trebuchets must be able to fit the 50 lb sandbag to hold them in place.

Students will need their Participant ID number, and password, from their advisor.

Students submit a video of your trebuchet firing at a net 25 feet away.  Members will also submit an analysis of the video describing how the trebuchet is performing and engineering ideas they are considering to improve the performance of their trebuchet.

April 2025

Students submit portfolio and trebuchet, and sign up for a competition time.

 

Washington TSA Rules

To compete, students must:

  • Belong to a currently affiliated TSA chapter

  • Be registered (by their TSA advisor) for competition by December 20, 2024 ($30)

  • Compete in the January 23, 2025 virtual competition (see individual event pages for details)

  • Be selected as a top competitor in their event(s) and invited to participate at State

    • Number of competitors is dependent on specific event

    • Qualifying competitor lists will be published by February 10, 2025

    • State Conference registration week February 24-28, 2025 (see state conference page for details)

At the state level, 3 teams per chapter may compete.
