Video Game Design
Description
Participants develop a game that focuses on the subject of their choice. The game must have high artistic, educational, and social value and be interesting, exciting, visually appealing, and intellectually challenging.

Event Deadlines
January 23, 2025
Students will need their Participant ID number, and password, from their advisor. Only the team captain will be able to upload the file.
Students must submit portfolio and link to game.
Online game must have at least the 1st level well developed, exhibiting the theme established in the storyboard, and demonstrating that key game mechanics have been developed and well tested.
Judges should be able to complete level one and transition to the 2nd level.
Judges will also score 3 sections of the portfolio using the following sections of the rubrics in the event guide:
Preliminary Game Design Section, all four criteria for 70 points
Preliminary Video Demonstration & 3. Documentation Portfolio, the following criteria for 30 points:

NOTE: “Video Game Demonstration” and “Portfolio Components” criteria will not be evaluated or scored, even if submitted.
The overall requirements are adjusted as follows for the January judging:
(Section E-7) The game must have at least 2 of the 3 required levels. The 1st level must be well developed, if not complete, and will be the focus of the January judging. The 2nd level does not need to be complete, but the transition between levels should be clear and complete.
(Section F) Video Game Demonstration Video not required or scored for January qualifying.
Teams are able to keep working on their game after the qualifying deadline, if they qualify for the State Conference. Teams should not make changes from Jan. 23 to Feb. 10.

Washington TSA Rules
To compete, students must:
Belong to a currently affiliated TSA chapter
Be registered (by their TSA advisor) for competition by December 20, 2024 ($30)
Compete in the January 23, 2025 virtual competition (see individual event pages for details)
Be selected as a top competitor in their event(s) and invited to participate at State
Number of competitors is dependent on specific event
Qualifying competitor lists will be published by February 10, 2025
State Conference registration week February 24-28, 2025 (see state conference page for details)
At the state level, 3 teams (may be a team of 1 at advisor’s discretion) per chapter may compete.
