Concept Art (WA Only)
Description
Participants use digital art and design skills in the production of conceptual art and portfolio that reflects the theme for the year.
2024-25 Theme
Ancient 50's- Develop concept drawings for a game or movie where two companion characters from an ancient mythology (such as Egyptian, Celtic, Greek, Aztec, etc.) have been adapted to a 1950's aesthetic.
Clarification 11/27/24
The companion character or “sidekick” can offer a lot of fun and variety to a main character during their journey. Some sidekicks aren’t even “living." They are normally inanimate objects that come to life as characters.
Sidekicks can be linked to the main character so that the sum of their combined characterization is greater than the individual parts. The two become a combined “thing."

Event Deadlines
January 23, 2025
Students will need their Participant ID number, and password, from their advisor.
Students will submit their portfolio. Students will be scored on items a-h of the documentation portfolio, including mood boards and rough sketches.
Judges will require the companion characters together in all materials except the mood boards (d), rough sketches (e), and studies (g). For those parts of the portfolio where you are developing and exploring details, it would be normal to gather and portray a balance between the characters in solo and as a combined thing.
